This album was recorded June 22nd and 23rd 2022.
Circulasione Totale Orchestra has seen many incarnations. This is the latest – and the smallest! I started this version by playing with drummer Michael and bassist Vetle Laupsa during the fall of 2019. They were at the time students in Stavanger. The covid arrived and our playing became more sporadic. Vetle eventually moved to Oslo after the spring-semester in 2020. Then Michael and I were joined by guitarist Kristian Enkerud Lien and tubaist Laurits Huså. We tried to play once a week, but sometimes covid prevented us from meeting. At the end of the spring-semester, Krisitan moved to Trondheim to continue his studies. Then trumpeter Erlend Strand Rolfsen joined us and by the end the of the spring-semester in 2022, Michael moved to Gothenburg. Before he moved, we got Kristian from Trondheim and we recorded this album.
I very much wanted a document from the covid-time. This is pretty much what kept me going musically during that periode. I kept practicing by myself and together we kept improving our improvising skills, playing together as a group.
From the beginning, we improvised freely. No scores or instructions. As we kept playing, we became more confident and took more chances. I strongly believe in practicing free improvisation together. Building confidence, friendship and having fun!
